Scan breakthrough puts an end to the 'guesswork' behind killer blood vessel disease
Scotland has some of the world's highest rates of vasculitis - an inflammatory and potentially fatal condition of the blood vessels. Although treatments are effective, they come with unpleasant and dangerous side effects. Doctors currently have to rely on 'guesswork' based on symptoms to assess whether it is safe to reduce medication. Now a study from Edinburgh University, using PET-MRI, shows a new approach is possible.
