Brendan Rodgers bemoaned Celtic’s luck after news of Cameron Carter-Vickers’ return from injury was tempered somewhat by an injury to fellow centre back Liam Scales which will rule him out of today’s game against St Johnstone.
Carter-Vickers sat out last week’s Scottish Cup quarter final win over Livingston, with Celtic’s partnership of Scales and Stephen Welsh being troubled by the visitors, who scored twice on the day despite their eventual defeat.
Rodgers was looking forward to having something of a selection problem for a change in that area of his team as he selected a partner to play alongside the returning Carter-Vickers, but says it is typical of his side’s fortunes this term that Scales has now also succumbed to a knock.
"Cameron Carter-Vickers is fine, he has trained and looks good so that's great he is available," Rodgers said.

"Liam Scales will miss the game. He has picked up a knock in training.
"He has been so robust, everything about him has been great since he came into the team. Sadly, he misses this game because he has played every other minute, but he should be back after the international break.
“It’s incredible really. You get Cam back and then this happens to Liam. It’s such a pivotal position in the team, especially a team like us who play such a high line and aggressive game. The centre-halves are always key. So it’s just unfortunate.
“We feared the worst when he did go down, but we’ve had the scan and thankfully it’s not as bad. He misses St Johnstone and the internationals but hopefully he’ll be back for Livingston.”
Meanwhile, Rodgers has played down fears over the fitness of winger Luis Palma, after a statement released by the Honduran FA indicated that he may be out for up to ‘three or four weeks’ due to muscle discomfort.

Rodgers though says he still expects to have the player available once more following the international break.
“I listen to my own medical team,” he said.
“He’ll miss the St Johnstone game and then will hopefully be available not too long after that.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
