Buckie Thistle goalkeeper Stuart Knight grew up idolising Rab Douglas.
Knight even wore the former Celtic shot-stopper's black kit in homage to his hero.
Now at the ripe old age of 36, Knight will get to fulfil his dream and play against the team he has always supported.
Former Celtic goalkeeper Douglas remembers the days when he was a fireman, brickie, and part-time footballer before the big-time came calling.
He admits that today's story is all about the underdogs and the romance of the Scottish Cup as the Highland League side travels to face Brendan Rodgers Celtic at Parkhead today.
The 51-year-old recalled how he was listed on the substitutes bench when Meadowbank Thistle took on Celtic in the same competition in the fourth round back in February 1995.
Two goals from Pierre Van Hooijdonk and a counter from Willie Falconer saw Tommy Burns's team win 3-0 at the national stadium.
The men in green and white returned to Hampden that May where they lifted the trophy when the Dutch striker netted the winner in a 1-0 success against Airdrie to hand Celtic their first silverware in six years.
Douglas said: “I love that kind of stuff. I think it’s great for Buckie Thistle in general.
"It’s the romance of the cup. I was on the bench in 1995 for Meadowbank against Celtic at Hampden. That’s your shot at glory and it’s their highlight
"The families will be travelling and Buckie have got a good few thousand supporters going down and they’ll just want to give a good account of themselves.
“I love the Scottish Cup full stop. The beauty is the romance of the cup, the underdogs, everything.
"I think I was on fifteen quid a week sitting on the bench for Meadowbank I think it cost me fourteen quid to get there! I didn’t drive. It was just the beauty of the cup.
“Everybody backs the underdogs and it’s a great thing to see and for everybody, for the club and the Buckie fans as well."
Douglas was lucky enough to win the Scottish Cup three times with Martin O'Neill's formidable Celtic team.
Knight has featured against Rangers in the tournament before when he turned out for Forres and has even scored with a header.
Douglas revealed that the best advice he could give Knight is to try and keep a clean sheet until the interval if he can.
He said: "I won the Scottish Cup three times with Celtic, so I have been there. "When you’re the underdog you just want to get to half-time and not concede. Anytime you are playing Celtic you want to get beyond that period where the fans get slightly restless.
"Listen, if he’s 36, he’s got enough experience and he’ll absolutely love it.”
“If he has played against Rangers and scored with a header he’s doing better than me!
"It's brilliant to hear that he wore the black Celtic goalkeeper's kit growing up. I’m rooting for him now.”
Rab Douglas was speaking at a Scottish Gas media event. Scottish Gas is the proud partner of the Scottish Cup.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
