Jack Butland 7
Had looked good for a clean sheet but had no chance as Haraslin hammered home to reduce deficit. Then pulled off vital stop turning round post to preserve lead as Haraslin arrowed goalwards. Collected well from crosses to ease mounting pressure.
James Tavernier 7
A less gung-ho attacking performance from the Rangers captain but every bit as professional. Carried out defensive duties and surged forward when the opportunity arose. Booked.
Connor Goldson 7
No thrills outing from the ever-reliable defender. Managed the defensive line well and won just about everything in his vicinity. Booked.
Ben Davies 8
Back into the line-up for the big occasion and delivered. Confident on the ball and composed in his defending. Benefitted under Clement and responding with big performances.
Borna Barisic 7
Sent a couple of wicked crosses into the box and asked questions of the Sparta defense as well as standing firm to any test going in the other direction. Booked.
Ryan Jack 8
Another player who looks revitilised under Clement. Bossed the midfield and was given license to charge forward and contribute in attack. Might well have locked down central midfield berth moving forward.
John Lundstram 7
Did the dirty work when required but another tireless runner in the Rangers engine room. Neat and tidy on the ball and alert to shut down the danger especially as Sparta grew in the latter stages.
Todd Cantwell 8
Full of confidence and showed moments of brilliance. A serious threat on the ball epitomised as he cut inside and curled home his side's second. Desperate for the ball all night and effective any time he had it.
Sam Lammers 7
Come under scrutiny but another step in the right direction after a shaky start. Intelligent dummy runs caused chaos for the Sparta rearguard. Lacking a killer instinct and tired a little. Booked.
Abdallah Sima 7
An abundance of running as has become expected from the on-loan winger. Just missing the final touch at Ibrox with a few chances put off target but a handful for any defence.
Danilo 8
Looks every bit the striker Rangers have been craving. Immense pressing led to opener as he robbed Gomez before coolly slotting into bottom corner. Teed up Cantwell for second goal of the night. Unlucky to have second strike ruled out.
Ross McCausland (for Cantwell, 69) 7
Defence-splitting pass to Danilo and close himself with a low drive. A very lively cameo.
Tom Lawrence (for Sima, 85) 2
On for final few minutes.
Cyriel Dessers (for Danilo, 85) 2
Didn't see much of the ball.
Jose Cifuentes (for Lammers, 90+6)
Barely touched the ball.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
