Joe Hart 7
A couple of times he had to be quick off his line to prevent the Rangers forwards from taking advantage of spaces in behind the defence. The 35-year-old also made two crucial saves late on to deny Danilo.
Alistair Johnston 7
It was an up-and-down game from the right-back. He sometimes showed great energy to get forward and helped drive the away side's attacks. However, he was caught out defensively on a few occasions as he struggled to deal with Rabbi Matondo. This did not lead to the opposition scoring, though, and given it is only the Canadian's second appearance of the season, he should be relatively happy with his performance.
Gustaf Lagerbielke 6
The occasion can sometimes get to players, particularly when they are making their first appearance in the fixture, and that is exactly what happened to the centre-back. He struggled to get a grip on the game with some slack passing and poor decision-making.
Liam Scales 7
Unlike his defensive partner, the Irishman had a solid afternoon. After a shaky start, he grew into the game and made some crucial interceptions. He played the ball out from the back quite well under pressure and was calm during the late attacking onslaught from the hosts.
Greg Taylor 7
He struggled at the start of the match but seemed to grow with confidence. Despite Rangers trying to target him down the left-hand side, he defended quite well while on the pitch.
Callum McGregor 8
It was an excellent performance from the captain. After a tough start to the season, he really showed how important a player he is for the Scottish champions. He did it all by driving runs, passing under pressure, and taking the game by the scruff of the neck.
Matt O'Riley 8
He provided a couple of phenomenal passes to release both wingers. His forward header played in Kyogo Furuhashi for the crucial goal. As well as from an attacking perspective, he also made some crucial interceptions and was tidy on the ball in the middle of the park.
Liel Abada 7
The Israeli made positive runs during his time on the pitch and should have had an assist after Kyogo missed an early opportunity. He also forced a great save from Jack Butland early in the second half.
David Turnbull 6
He worked hard but struggled to make a real impact in the game. He played a role defensively but did not offer much from an attacking point of view.
Daizen Maeda 7
It was another great shift from the winger. He prevented James Tavernier from being able to get into the game, therefore diluting one of Rangers' biggest threats.
Kyogo Furuhashi 9
The striker was phenomenal during his time on the pitch. His movement caused the Rangers defence plenty of problems and his pressing allowed Celtic to get up the pitch when they were under pressure. He could have had a first-half hat-trick after squandering a couple of early chances, but he more than made up for it with a sensational finish just before the break.
Substitutes
Anthony Ralston 5 (for Johnston, 66)
He was solid enough when coming on and was calm while under pressure.
Odin Thiago Holm 5 ( for Turnbull, 66)
It was a relatively quiet derby debut for the midfielder. He tested Butland from distance not long after coming on.
Yang Hyun-jun 5 (for Abada, 66)
The winger made a few positive runs and had some nice touches but was not overly involved.
Alexandro Bernabei 4 (for Taylor, 73)
He was quiet but did his job well enough.
Oh Hyeon-gyu 4 (for Kyogo, 76)
There was not much time for him to make an impact.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
