Jack Fitzwater insists it is hugely important for Livingston to reset following their defeat to Celtic as they aim to cement a top-six league position.
David Martindale’s side have enjoyed a successful campaign to date and are currently in fifth place, three points ahead of the bottom half.
The table is so tight that things could change quickly, but defender Fitzwater insists he and his teammates are focused on the job at hand following their 3-0 loss at Celtic Park on Wednesday.
He explained: "Now that we have put ourselves in a real good place and I think we would be telling lies if we said we weren't looking at a top-six.
"I think that is where we have got to be, we have to aim for that. We will take each game as it comes but we are in a great position at the minute and even though we lost to Celtic the confidence and belief is still there, that we can do it.
"You have to take these games in isolation. You look at our home record. We were unbeaten in January but it is our bread and butter on Saturday against Kilmarnock. So it is one where we have to go and try to get three points.”
Livi found themselves 3-0 down at half-time during the week, but they rallied to ensure they were not on the end of a thumping defeat.
Fitzwater continued: "Yeah, 3-0 before the break you were thinking don't let it be four, five and six. At half-time it is probably just damage limitation, show your character.
"It would have been easy to chuck it in the second half. I think you saw the boys throwing their bodies on the line.
"You come to these places, you need a little bit of luck, and you need them to be not on form but they were. I thought they were very very good.
"Some of the goals we gave away, we have you look at them back. I think we can do better on a couple of them.
"Defensively we were quite good but we have to find a way to come to these places and getting up the park a bit and making a few more passes.
“It is easy to chuck it when you are 3-0 down at half-time, especially here because they make it really difficult.
"I don't think it was a case of them slowing down in the second-half. I think we got to grips with what they were trying to do.
"It is big for goal difference as well, you could get done six or seven and it probably counts as a point at the end of the season.
"So we have to look at the positives and negatives and it is a massive game on Saturday."
Fitzwater was also delighted for Joel Nouble as he returned to action following an injury lay-off.
He added: "Delighted for him, It has been a tough six or seven weeks he has been out. He is a massive part of this team.
"I think you can see when he comes on he is a handful for anyone, he brings players into the game. He is going to be massive for us going into the last, 10 games before the split and we will see where it takes us.
“You can see without him we did quite well but anyone would want Joel in their team. I don't think anyone in the league is like him.
"He sometimes takes three or four of their players away from where they are supposed to be and it frees up space for the likes of Bruce Anderson and our wide players.
"But, yes Joel is going to be massive but Bruce is going to be just as important."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
