Rangers are on the brink of naming Patrick Stewart, the former interim chief executive of Manchester United, as their new CEO.

This expected announcement arrives as the Scottish Premiership giants seeks to solidify its leadership model after a period of instability.

According to The Rangers Review, Malcolm Offord is also anticipated to step into the role of chairman, taking his place at the helm of the Ibrox boardroom.

With Stewart poised to take over the day-to-day operations of the club, he will succeed James Bisgrove, who departed earlier this summer for a lucrative position in Saudi Arabia.

Since Bisgrove's exit at the end of May, Rangers have been without a CEO, leaving a significant gap in the club's hierarchy.

Former chairman John Bennett attempted to secure St Mirren’s Jim Gillespie for the role, but that approach fell through at the last moment. Subsequently, Bennett decided to resign due to health issues, further complicating the club's search for new leadership.

In the meantime, ex-director John Gilligan and investor George Letham have been managing the club's operations and spearheading the search for both a new chairman and CEO.

Fortunately for Rangers supporters, it appears that these critical appointments are nearing completion, with Offord and Stewart set to join the club soon.

Stewart brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent 14 years at Old Trafford in various significant off-field positions. He left Manchester United at the conclusion of the last season, during which he held the title of executive director and served as interim CEO while the club transitioned from the Glazers to INEOS ownership.

His tenure at United included a stint with TEAM, the commercial agency for the UEFA Champions League, where he worked for five seasons.

The recent changes at Manchester United have been acknowledged by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the head of INEOS, who expressed gratitude to both Stewart and the outgoing chief financial officer, Cliff Batty, for their contributions.

Ratcliffe said: “I would like to personally thank both Patrick and Cliff for their support in helping us get to know the club and making us feel welcome and I respect their decisions to now move on as we establish a new management team for the club.”
