Kevin van Veen's St Mirren contract has reportedly been ripped up.
The forward, 33, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week facing allegations of domestic abuse with a club investigation launched and the player unavailable for the match against Ross County on Sunday.
A club statement read: “St Mirren Football Club is aware of a court appearance and ongoing criminal investigation into Kevin van Veen.
“The club will conduct its own investigation into this matter and Kevin will not be available for Saturday’s match. We will make no further comment during this process.”
Van Veen's case was adjourned until November 28 but it has now been reported - by the Scottish Sun - that the player will depart the Paisley club under a clause in his loan deal from Groningen.
St Mirren chiefs are thought to have made the decision to end the loan deal with Van Veen to return to the Dutch side.
The Paisley club held the option to end Van Veen's time in Paisley should he make less than ten appearances.

So far, the Dutchman has only played five times for St Mirren this season.
Manager Stephen Robinson said last week: “It has been challenging on and off the pitch but you face these challenges and you have to deal with them.
“That’s what I am paid to do, worry about the football, pick the best team I can and get results and we had a terrific result on Wednesday night, a brilliant performance at Ibrox so things on the pitch are moving in the right direction and that is my sole focus.
“My job is to worry about football, that the players are ready to go, are in a positive frame of mind and they are, there is a really good atmosphere round the place, people coming back to fitness and form which is great to see and I am confident that we will get through this period as we always do and come out stronger.”
In an unrelated matter, club chiefs are carrying out an investigation into Jaden Brown's actions after the full-back admitted to three driving charges at Paisley Sheriff Court.
A statement read: “St Mirren Football Club was aware of Jaden Brown’s court appearance yesterday (Thursday 31st October).
“Given the findings of the court, the club requires to further its own ongoing investigation into the player’s actions.
“Jaden will not be available for Saturday’s match. We shall make no further comment at this point.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
