The SPFL's latest annual accounts outlined a record year for turnover, with one of the main beneficiaries being chief executive Neil Doncaster.

With a turnover increase of six per cent, the SPFL generated £44.3 million, up from £41.9m the previous year. This is primarily down to a £1m increase in television revenue from Sky Sports.

CEO Doncaster likewise saw an increase in his wages, paid £453,000 in the year past, up £23,000 from the £422,000 paid in the 12 months prior.

As exclusively revealed by The Herald last year, Doncaster has a lucrative contract that includes a two-year notice period – meaning the latest seven per cent rise could now cost the SPFL over £900,000 to part company with the current chief executive.

According to the accounts, Doncaster took home £392,000 in 2022 after bonuses, which was up from £388,000 the previous year. For context, Doncaster's annual salary was £172,000 when he first joined the organisation in 2012.

As announced earlier this year, another beneficiary of the SPFL's record turnover is the prize money paid to the 42 SPLF member clubs – it having increased by six per cent, upping the SPFL prize pot fund to £33.7m.
