Hibernian youngster Kanayo Megwa has joined Partick Thistle on loan.

The right-back will spend the season on loan at the Championship side.

The defender made his debut for Hibs in August 2023 and recently signed a long-term contract at Easter Road.

He spent last season on loan at Airdrieonians, where he impressed as they pushed for a spot in the Scottish Premiership.

David Gray said: “Due to the competition for places at right-back, this loan move makes complete sense for Kanayo as it allows him to gain regular senior football at a competitive level.

“He’s someone we’re really fond of and he needs regular game-time to keep developing. We’ve seen a positive change in him after each loan spell he’s been on, and I’m sure this will be another that hugely benefits him.”

Sporting Director Malky Mackay added: “This is a development loan for Kanayo to allow him to gain further experience in the men’s game.

“It’s vitally important that we allow him the opportunity to play and develop. He really impressed out on loan with Airdrieonians last season, and we want him to have the same impact in a different environment at Partick Thistle.

“We would like to thank Partick Thistle for their support with this move and we are looking forward to seeing how Kanayo develops.”

Jags manager Kris Doolan said: “Kanayo is a player who we’ve been trying to sign for most of the summer so to get this deal done is really satisfying. I think any of our fans who watched our games against Airdrieonians last season will recognise why we’ve been so keen to bring him in.

“He’s an exceptional one-on-one defender, he reads the game brilliantly and I think as last season went on he became more and more threatening as an attacking prospect.

“Making the sort of impact he did in your first full season as a senior player is incredibly impressive and now we’re looking forward to seeing how he uses the experience he earned at Airdrieonians to push on and be a great player for us here this year.”
