Steve Clarke's side battled back from 2-0 down against Poland to level the scores but a late penalty saw the visitors take all three points in Glasgow.
It leaves Scotland looking to kick-start their Nations League A Group 1 campaign with a result on the road.
Portugal defeated Croatia 2-1 in their first match in the Nations League with Cristiano Ronaldo breaking the record for the most goals scored with his 900th strike against Croatia.
