Scotland defender Aaron Hickey is anticipated to be sidelined for a significant portion of the 2024/25 season after undergoing another surgical procedure on his hamstring injury.

Brentford announced that Hickey encountered a setback during a training session last week, complicating his recovery.

Having been unavailable since October 2023, the former Heart of Midlothian and Bologna full-back missed Euro 2024 this summer because of the injury, despite making strides towards fitness by returning to training at the end of last season.

Confirming that Hickey's road to recovery will be dragged out longer than hoped, Brentford's head physio Nick Stubbings said: “The procedure involved the removal of the previous repair sutures and making a new tendon repair.

“Now we aim to start afresh and help Aaron return to his previous level of health and performance.”
