Motherwell have bolstered their squad with the signing of Tawanda Maswanhise.

Stuart Kettlewell has endured an injury-ravaged start to the 2024/25 campaign, with the Motherwell manager having to cope with around eight first team players out on the treatment table.

Striker Tony Watt arrived at the club on-loan from Dundee United earlier this week, and now the Fir Park outfit have added another attacker to their ranks.

Maswanhise came through the ranks at Leicester City and impressed for the Foxes' youth teams. But he was released in the summer and has worked hard while on trial with Motherwell to earn a short-term contract.

“Tawanda has been on trial for a couple of weeks now,” Kettlewell explained prior to Sunday's Premier Sports Cup match against Kilmarnock.

“We have been impressed with his endeavour every time he has taken to the training pitch. He took part in the bounce match against Everton last week and once again, he looked good.

“He offers something a bit different for us. He’s quick, direct and likes to find the back of the net. There’s lots of potential with Tawanda and hopefully we can get the best out of him.”

Capped three times by Zimbabwe, Maswanhise admits he is grateful that the Scottish Premiership side have given him an opportunity to showcase his talent.

“I’m just buzzing to be in this position,” the 21-year-old added.

“This summer has been about hard work and getting my head down. I’ve been looking for an opportunity to show people what I can do and now I’ve got one.

“I feel good and feel ready to make an impact.”
