A huge tennis star has withdrawn from the upcoming 2024 US Open.
The much-anticipated Grand Slam tournament, held annually in New York City, is due to run from Monday, August 26 until Sunday, September 8.
But there will be no Rafael Nadal this year, with the 38-year-old telling disappointed fans that he doesn't believe he would be able to perform at his best if he competed.
Nadal was last seen teaming up with his countryman, Carlos Alcaraz, for the men's doubles at the Paris Olympic Games as the pair fell short at the quarter-final stage.
He also missed the 2023 US Open with a hip injury, and won't be able to add to his 22 career Grand Slam titles until January's Australian Open.

Taking to X, the iconic Spaniard explained the thought process behind his withdrawal from the prestigious event based at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, while confirming that he will return for the Laver Cup in Berlin next month.
"Hi all, writing today to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open a place where I have amazing memories," he said.
"I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100% this time.
"Thanks to all my US Fans in particular, will miss you all and will see you another time. Best of lucks to all for the always amazing US Open! My next event will be the Laver Cup in Berlin."
The news undoubtedly will increase speculation about Nadal's future amid talk of retirement.
Novak Djokovic clinched singles gold at the latest Olympics and solidified his status as the last bastions of the once-dominant 'big four' in tennis.
With Andy Murray finally quitting the sport last week after an emotional farewell at Wimbledon and then the Paris Games.
Whilst 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer hung up his racquet after the Ryder Cup style Laver Cup in September 2022.
That leaves just Nadal and Djokovic standing among the new breed of tennis talent.

Shortly after Nadal's update, Stacey Allaster, the US Open tournament director, acknowledged the tennis legends absence.
Nadal is a four-time champion (2010, 2013, 2017 and 2019) and Allaster paid tribute to his contributions in a short statement.
She said: "Rafa is a tremendous champion and will be missed during the 2024 US Open by the fans and all those associated with the tournament. We wish him all the best and look forward to having him back at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center."
