Stephen Robinson has revealed Caolan Boyd-Munce will miss the second leg against Valur in the UEFA Conference League with striker Mika Mandron a doubt to feature.

St Mirren midfielder Boyd-Munce, 24, had to be withdrawn after just 15 minutes during the first leg in Reykjavik in a major blow.

However, despite fears of a lengthy layoff, the Northern Ireland internationalist has received positive scan results with a chance to return the following week. It rules him out against Valur and for the Scottish Premiership opener against Hibs.

“We’ve had some really good sessions leading up to the game," said Robinson of his squad ahead of the decisive European tie at the SMiSA Stadium. "We’ve got our longer-term injuries in Conor McMenamin and Greg Kiltie.

"Caolan Boyd-Munce won’t be available for this game but might be for the following week so it’s not as bad as we first feared."

Elsewhere, there is concern that Mandron - who was top goalscorer in Paisley last season - could miss out with a minor knock. The player will go through a late fitness test ahead of kick-off.

Robinson confirmed: "Mika Mandron will have a late fitness test to see where he is with a late niggle."

The hosts, staging their first home tie in Europe since 1987, will be boosted by the return of Alex Iacovitti with Scott Tanser also returning to full fitness after taking a spot on the bench last week.

Centre-back Iacovitti lasted just seven minutes on his debut against Carlisle in pre-season before pulling up with a suspected hamstring issue.

Fortunately, the problem was a neural one and not an injury likely to keep the player out for a sustained period just days after finalising a two-year deal in Paisley.

The St Mirren boss added: "Alex Iacovitti is fit and available and in the squad.

"He adds a bit of experience and another voice in the squad which is really important if you look at our bench where we’ve got six or seven young kids.”
