Rangers forward Sam Lammers may have priced himself out of a potential transfer back to the Netherlands this summer.
The 27-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Utrecht, had been linked with a permanent move to the Eredivisie club.
According to reports, Utrecht were willing to match Rangers' asking price of around £2.7 million for Lammers, who scored 11 goals in 20 appearances during a productive loan spell back in his homeland.
However, any prospect of a deal appears to have collapsed after Lammers made it clear he is not willing to accept a significant pay cut from his current Ibrox contract, which still has three years remaining.
It is understood that Lammers is asking for a salary of around 1.5 million euros per year, which is significantly higher than Utrecht's top earner, who reportedly earns around 500,000 euros. This disparity has forced the Dutch club to look elsewhere in their search for a new talisman, as they are unable to meet Lammers' wage demands.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement has made it quite clear that he must sell unwanted players before he adds further additions, with the Belgian desperate to kick-on in their attempt to be Scottish champions again, whilst making an impact on European soil.
The Light Blues can already call on Danilo, Cyriel Dessers, and Hamza Igamane as their strike options and with Lammers failing to make a decent impression during his first six months in Glasgow, the club and many supporters would likely be glad if another willing suitor was found.
Rangers have made seven new additions during the off-season, including Igamane, Mohamed Diomande, Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Liam Kelly.
