Kieran Tierney admits he's 'heartbroken' to have been ruled out the rest of Euro 2024 through injury.
The former Celtic defender was forced off with a serious-looking injury during Scotland's 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Wednesday night.
As the Arsenal player attempted to challenge Swiss striker Dan Ndoye, the 27-year-old pulled up in agony as he immediately clutched his hamstring.
He had to be stretchered off just after the hour-mark, as Scott McKenna was brought on by Steve Clarke as his replacement.
It was today confirmed that Tierney will play no further part in the tournament for the Scots, and it comes as a bitter blow to both the player himself and the national team.
He wrote on X: "Heartbroken doesn’t cut it. Love this team and these boys. This too shall pass."
"He was stretchered off the other night," Carver explained. "He's got an issue with his hamstring and as we speak he is heading home to be assessed by Arsenal. That is all I can say at the moment."
On Tierney's reaction to the horror blow, Carver added: "He's obviously extremely disappointed.
"If we do progress and move through the tournament I'm sure Kieran will be back to support us. But he's a young lad, he's got plenty of time.

"It's a blow because he's one of our top players and in tournament football, you need your best players on the park.
"In particular he gives us great balance down the left hand side, he combines really well with Andy Robertson and Callum McGregor. But it's an opportunity for somebody else to step in."
Kenny McLean admitted post-match the injury toll on the Scotland squad has been 'freak' and 'unforgiving.
He said: "It's devastating, honestly. We know how big a player Kieran is for us. Hopefully on Sunday, we will be more fleet of foot with the ball and that's where he really comes alive, driving out with the ball. He was outstanding in the first half for us tonight. Hopefully, it's not too bad for him.
"Scott can fill that role. That's what the squad's for. We will see what KT's injury is, hopefully, it's not too bad. He's on a bit of gas and air so he's not the easiest to talk to just now but fingers crossed for him because he's a massive part of us."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
