John Carver has expressed the Scotland Euro 2024 camp's support for Alan Hansen, who is currently in the hospital with a serious illness.
Hansen, a former defender for Partick Thistle and Liverpool, earned 26 caps for Scotland between 1979 and 1987 and participated in the 1982 World Cup.
At 68, Hansen's illustrious career includes joining Liverpool from Partick Thistle in 1977, where he lifted three European Cups, eight league titles, two FA Cups, and three League Cups across 620 appearances before retiring in 1991 to become a well-known television pundit - notably co-hosting Match of the Day until 2014.
Assistant manager Carver shared his message from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where Scotland is preparing for their tournament opener against hosts Germany on Friday night.

Speaking to the media about the heartbreaking scenario, Carver said: “I would just like to pass a message on to say that everybody, the players, the staff, everybody connected with the SFA, are really thinking about himself and his family because it is an extremely difficult time.
“The biggest thing that I noticed was that he was a fantastic defender but he was a ball playing centre-half.
“He was probably one of the first that I can remember seeing play. The way he stepped out with the ball, he was so graceful and that’s why I remember him.
“He was obviously at one of the top sides in the world at the time, winning European Cups, winning everything in sight, so a proper legend in the game.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
