Furious Rangers chiefs have called for action after James Tavernier was once again targeted by missiles and left “lucky” to avoid a serious injury.

The Light Blues stalwart was in the firing line during the 2-1 derby loss at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

In the closing stages of the Scottish Premiership title-deciding match in Glasgow, play came to a halt as several objects were thrown in Tavernier's direction as he prepared to take a corner.

The Rangers defender briefly conversed with referee Willie Collum, who removed the objects and set them aside on the pitch.

Ibrox officials have since demanded the authorities issue more serious repercussions, expressing concerns that their captain narrowly avoided a significant injury during the 90 minutes.
