Dundee have signed goalkeeper Joe McCracken from Norwich City until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
23-year-old McCracken had previously agreed a move to Dens Park on a season-long loan last July and made four appearances, featuring in three Viaplay Cup group stage matches and the club’s league opener against Motherwell.
However, the move was terminated in August with the youngster returning to Carrow Road due to a goalkeeping squad issue.
In September, he was then loaned to EFL League Two club Accrington Stanley on an emergency agreement until December, before returning to the Canaries, only to secure a return to the Premiership club.
The Dee are currently sixth in the table, behind Hibernian on goal difference with Tony Docherty’s side unbeaten in four of their last six league matches after a 1-1 draw to Aberdeen on Tuesday evening.
Speaking about the announcement, McCracken said: “It feels good to be back at the club and to see familiar faces again. Once I got the initial phone call about coming back, I spoke to the manager and I was eager to get back to the club.
“I really enjoyed the games I played for Dundee, I got one game at home on the first day of the season against Motherwell and it was a great atmosphere. I am looking forward to seeing the fans again because they followed us home and away when I was here and I know they will do that again.”
Docherty expressed that he was “delighted” to have the Scotland youth international back at the Dark Blues.
He added: “I’m delighted to have Jon back at the club, he made a big impression on everybody at the start of the season.
“He played four matches for us, three in the League Cup and one in the League keeping two clean sheets for us.
“He is a really competent goalkeeper, he’s very popular amongst the boys in the dressing room and he will fit right back into the dressing room. It is important for me to have strong competition in every position for the last part of the season and I want that with our goalkeepers and bringing Jon in gives us a real level of competition.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
