An Aberdeen fan was arrested after a pyrotechnic was thrown towards Eintracht Frankfurt supporters during the teams’ Europa Conference League meeting, German police have said.

The incident happened midway through the first half shortly after Aberdeen midfielder Dante Polvara equalised during the Dons’ 2-1 defeat in the Waldstadion.

A statement on the Polizei Frankfurt X social media account read: “During the first half of the game, one of the away fans threw a burning pyrotechnic object into the neighbouring home fan block. Fortunately, no one was injured.

“We caught the crime on video and arrested the suspect.”

The incident sparked loud jeers from the Frankfurt fans and further missiles, which appeared to be plastic cups, were thrown by Aberdeen fans into the home section.

The Dons have tonight slammed the supporter in a statement. It read: "The club is deeply disappointed by the actions of a small minority of supporters during this evening’s match which threatens to tarnish the good reputation of Aberdeen FC and the vast majority of Dons supporters.

"The club will fully co-operate with UEFA and the relevant authorities during the course of any investigations.”
