Jack Butland 8
It was another strong showing from the goalkeeper as his saves kept the scoreline in Rangers' favour, including under sustained pressure near the end of the match. He was also consistent in his distribution.
James Tavernier 6
The captain had a mixed evening as he was a positive influence going forward but struggled defensively on a few occasions.
Connor Goldson 8
He made some crucial interceptions. Some of his passing was superb and allowed the hosts to get up the pitch. He was a rock at the back.
Ben Davies 8
He equipped himself well at the back throughout the fixture. Like his central defensive partner, some of the moments he broke up play were crucial in allowing the three points to stay at Ibrox.
Borna Barisic 6
At times he struggled defensively, but like the skipper at right-back, he offered plenty going forward. The 30-year-old was unlucky with a free kick that hit the bar 55 minutes in.
John Lundstram 7
Throughout the match he looked to make things happen but his passing lacked consistency at times. He did the hard yards and played a crucial defensive role.
Jose Cifuentes 6
It was another game of mixed fortunes for the midfielder. While he played some nice forward passes, he was also guilty of being slack in possession and was beaten too easily in the air.
Tom Lawrence 7
He had some nice touches and drove the hosts forward on several occasions. The Welshman was also unlucky with a shot from distance early in the second half. He was subbed after picking up a knock.
Abdallah Sima 8
The forward's pace caused real problems. He came alive in the second half, scoring the crucial goal on the night, according to UEFA.
Rabbi Matondo 7
At times he was unplayable and proved to be a real handful for the LaLiga side. On the counter-attack, he provided a real outlet for Rangers and always looked a danger going forward.
Kemar Roofe 7
He made a nuisance of himself throughout the game. His movement created problems for the Spanish side and he kept the ball well.
Substitutes
Sam Lammers (for Lawrence, 61) 5
The forward made a positive contribution from the bench by holding up the ball well.
Ryan Jack (for Cifuentes, 81) 3
Did the dirty work and kept calm on the ball.
Cyriel Dessers (for Roofe, 88) 2
He was unable to have an effect on the fixture due to when he was introduced.
Dujon Sterling ( for Sima, 88) 2
Another who had too little time on the pitch to make an impact.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
