Hibernian have confirmed that youngster Kanayo Megwa has joined Championship side Airdrieonians FC on loan.

The loan is for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign, with a review set to take place in January 2024.

The 19-year-old will join up with fellow Hibs youngsters Murray Aiken and Josh O’Connor, who have been gaining valuable senior minutes so far this season.

Managed by Rhys McCabe, Airdrieonians currently sit seventh in the second-tier of Scottish football with six points from their opening five matches.

This is the second loan spell in Megwa’s career, building on his impressive performances in League 1 with Kelty Hearts last season.

The young right-back also made his Hibs debut earlier this year coming on as a substitute away at Motherwell in the Premiership and starting at Easter Road against Raith Rovers in the League Cup.

On Megwa’s loan move, Academy Director Gareth Evans commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Kanayo and is the next stage of his development, playing regularly in the Championship.

“We’ve already seen the impact Airdrieonians has had on Murray and Josh, and we believe this is the perfect place to help Kanayo continue his upward trajectory.

“His loan move at Kelty Hearts last season gave him the taste of regular senior football and really aided his development as he looks to eventually work his way into the First Team here.”
