Steve Clarke's side welcomes the Auld Enemy to Glasgow tomorrow night to commemorate the oldest fixture in international football.
Scotland are undefeated in 11 competitive matches heading into the game.
Here are some key match-ups to look out for during the game...
Jack Hendy vs Harry Kane
The Al-Ettifaq centre-back will have his work cut out on Tuesday evening as he goes up against arguably the world’s best striker. Record-breaker Kane will almost certainly start up top for Gareth Southgate’s men. Hendry started in the middle of Clarke’s back three against Cyprus, with Kieran Tierney on his left and Ryan Porteous to the right. It seems reasonable to think that Hendry will be tasked with keeping a particularly close eye on the Bayern Munich frontman, and his ability to drop deep.
Billy Gilmour vs Jude Bellingham
The battle between two top young talents. Gilmour has a tendency in this Scotland team to take the ball first off of his defensive teammates before progressing it into the more advanced areas of the pitch. Given the Brighton midfielder will therefore be in a more defensive position, he will come up against Bellingham on several occasions during the match. Gilmour has started the season very well. But he will have to be on the top of his game when he matches up with Bellingham. The Real Madrid star is world-class.
Che Adams vs Levi Colwill
Adams led the line for Scotland against Cyprus and it’s highly likely he will be given the nod again against England given Lyndon Dykes’ lack of match sharpness at club level. Chelsea’s Levi Colwill is an option at the back for Southgate. The fans and English media are certainly keen to see the 20-year-old play in place of Harry Maguire. If that happens, it’s up the Southampton striker to give him a rough time on home soil.
Kieran Tierney vs Bukayo Saka
They will be very familiar with each other given they are Arsenal teammates. KT recently joined Real Sociedad on loan, so is set for a very swift reunion with Saka. The 22-year-old winger is a top talent and even at this early stage of his career has an abundance of experience at club and international level. Andy Robertson will undoubtedly need to help Tierney double up on him at points. But the beauty of Robbo and KT on the same side is that they can interchange when attacking. Saka will need to be on the ball tracking back to stop a major strength of Scotland.
Scott McTominay vs Declan Rice
In the past, this would have been viewed as a match-up between two defensive midfielders. McTominay is a goal machine for Scotland though and Rice will need to be on form to help his side stop him. Rice is viewed as a ‘Rolls Royce’ in the national team set-up down south, but Clarke will almost certainly be identifying him as someone his side can exploit. McTominay has six goals in five games. He’d surely love nothing more than to stick one past the country of his birth.
