Celtic legend Scott Brown has broken his silence after he was sacked as manager of Fleetwood Town.
The Sky Bet League One club lost their last six matches in all competitions after an opening-day draw at Carlisle and sat 23rd in the table when Brown was axed.
Brown, 36, was given his first managerial role by the Cod Army in May 2022 having called time on his playing career earlier that month.
He managed 19 wins and 21 draws in 64 games in charge, but a poor start to this campaign has brought an end to his tenure.
Reacting to his dismissal on social media, Brown wrote: “I am sad to leave Fleetwood Town Football Club after only 15 months as Head Coach, but I would like to thank the board for giving me the opportunity to join the club last May.
"We worked hard throughout our time at the club, after a challenging start, to continue the club’s excellent record in League One. I was fully committed to the club and was excited to sign a new contract in the summer, with ambitions to build on our 13th place finish last season and record-breaking FA Cup run.
"However, the disappointing start to the season has resulted in a situation in which Steven Whittaker, Barry Nicholson and I have left the club.
"I would like to thank Steven, Barry and Owain Fôn Williams for their support and hard work on and off the pitch. I would also like to thank the wider staff team at the club, who show up every day to make sure the team can perform to the highest possible level.
“The group as a whole have taken responsibility for the performances and poor results in the past month, but I am proud of the success we shared as a team last season and I expect the team to pull together and climb the table soon. I’d like to thank each of the players for their efforts during my time at the club.
"Thank you to the fans who welcomed me to their club and got behind me last season. I wish the club the very best for the future and I look forward to watching the players’ and team’s progress in the years to come.
“I have really enjoyed my first experience as a manager and I look forward to taking what I have learnt at Fleetwood into my next role in football."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
