Scotland's player ratings from the 33-6 win over Georgia ahead of the World Cup:
15 Ollie Smith Solid under the high ball from the first, the full-back stopped a Georgian try in the first half then became a growing threat with ball in hand as Scotland steadily got on top. 7
14 Kyle Steyn A late replacement for Darcy Graham, the Warriors winger came close to scoring in the first half and eventually got the try his play deserved in the second. 8
13 Huw Jones Like most of his team-mates, took a while to get into the game, but helped provide a cutting edge after the break. 6
12 Sione Tuipulotu Midfield partnership with Glasgow team-mate Jones was quiet at first, but later there were some reassuring signs of their understanding. 6
11 Duhan van der Merwe Early spill could have been costly, but he also had an excellent break from his own half before scoring twice in the second half. Announced as man of the match. 8
10 Finn Russell Looked in the mood and pinged the passes out well, but most importantly was safely subbed off early in the second half. 7
9 Ben White Making his return from injury, the scrum-half had some lively touches and almost certainly did enough to cement his status as the first-choice No 9. 7
1 Jamie Bhatti Had his hands full as the home pack battled to get on top of their gutsy opponents. 6
2 Dave Cherry Played well in the loose and contributed solidly in the set piece. 7
3 WP Nel Took one massive hit - which arrived when he seemed to have his feet off the ground - but otherwise was as reliable as ever. 6
4 Sam Skinner Applied himself diligently but has surely not done enough to dislodge Richie Gray from the starting line-up to face South Africa. 6
5 Grant Gilchrist Conceded an early penalty but went on to play his part in Scotland’s grind to supremacy. 6
6 Jamie Ritchie The captain had some good interventions but also got involved in an ill-advised altercation with an opponent in the second half. 6
7 Rory Darge Finished his try well but was shaken off all too easily at one point by Luka Matkava. 6
8 Jack Dempsey The pick of the pack, he scored a late try and was involved in the thick of the battle throughout. 8
Best of the rest
Chris Harris Lively attacking performance off the bench from the centre - but will it be enough for Gregor Townsend to think again and give him his place back? 8
Javan Sebastian An energetic display in the loose from the tighthead. 7
Ben Healy Added a couple of conversions after replacing Russell, and again looked comfortable conducting proceedings. 7
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
