Dylan Vente has vowed to continue his spectacular scoring spree after joining Hibernian on a three-year deal.
The deadly 24-year-old netted 51 times in 98 games for Roda JC over the last two and a half seasons in the Netherlands second-tier.
That prolific form won him plenty of admirers and Hibs have shelled out a reported £700,000 fee to win the race for his signature ahead of the likes of Coventry City, Sunderland and Palermo.
He has been brought to Easter Road to replace Scotland internationalist Kevin Nisbet, who left for Millwall in a £2 million move earlier this summer.
And Vente is confident he can repeat his recent goal-scoring prowess in the Scottish Premiership.
The former Feyenoord youngster said: “It feels really nice to be at Hibernian. First of all, when I heard the news that Hibernian were interested, I was happy.
“I knew they were from the Scottish league and I want to show myself here in the Scottish league and for the club.
“I’m a striker and I’ve scored goals in the last two seasons, which was pretty good.
“I have that feeling that I want to bring over to this club.
“I like to run in behind defenders and just be a striker - score goals. I think as a striker that’s the most important thing.
“As a striker, you want to score goals and in the last two seasons that stats were pretty good.
“I want to bring that this year as well in the Scottish league. Hopefully we will get that.”
Vente, who has been signed too late to play in the Europa Conference League second-leg against Inter Club d’Escaldes, has been handed the number nine jersey held by Christian Doidge for the last four years.
He added: “As a striker, you always want number nine. At Roda, I also played with the number nine.
“It’s the biggest number for a striker so I’m very happy and delighted that I can have that number.
“So, let’s start scoring goals in that number!”
Meanwhile, Vente has praised manager Lee Johnson for making him feel wanted at Hibs.
The Netherlands under-20 cap was in demand, with Roda’s football affairs manager, Robbie Servais, saying that clubs were ‘bidding left and right’ for Vente.
But the Easter Road outfit successfully fought off competition for his signature.
Vente explained: “The manager, I think, was the most important thing. He gave me a good feeling about coming here.
“I’m more like a feeling person, so he said things that were true about myself and about my qualities - and what I have to do better.
“Plus, he gave me a good feeling for the club, which was the most important thing.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
