After being announced as Aberdeen manager until the end of the season, Barry Robson has strengthened his coaching staff with the addition of Liam Fox as first-team coach.
The 39-year-old former Dundee United boss will join initially until the end of the season.
Fox’s role will primarily be working with Barry and Steve Agnew with the first-team squad, and calling upon his player development experience, will also support the pathway for young players to the first team.
As well as Fox's top-flight managerial experience with Dundee United, he has also had spells as first-team and reserve coach at Heart of Midlothian and as assistant manager at Livingston.
Manager Robson said: “We’re delighted to bring Liam to the club and his arrival further strengthens the coaching team, adding a skillset that will complement the work of Steve Agnew.
“Liam has worked at U18s and development level, as well as being a first team manager, so his wide-ranging experience fits the profile for this important role at senior level while also supporting the pathway for young players to the first team.
“As we prepare for the challenges which lie ahead for the remainder of the season, Liam’s arrival will help to ensure we have a strong coaching setup in place to help drive performances and results for the club.”
Director of Football, Steven Gunn, added: “When Barry stood up to take on the first-team duties, he was keen to ensure he surrounded himself with a strong and experienced coaching team, while maintaining a positive connection with the development group and U18s.
“Liam is held in extremely high regard within the Scottish game for his ability and technical expertise as a coach.
“We expect him to bring those qualities to Aberdeen at first team level, as well as working specifically to support the development of our emerging talent and, with Neil Simpson, to further enhance our loan players.”
Robson has been given the chance to make the Aberdeen manager’s job his on a long-term basis after the club interviewed five other candidates for the role.
Robson received a double boost on Wednesday after being named manager of the month for March soon after being handed the reins until the end of the season.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
