David Marshall 5

Had no chance of stopping either of Hearts’ first two goals but could have done better at the third. Wasn’t called into action very often but was always alert when he had to be. Good stop to deny Toby Sibbick late on.

Marijan Cabraja 6

Didn’t make the most of his deliveries from set-pieces but did well to get forward during attacking phases of play and was always looking for the ball. Did okay defensively.

Ryan Porteous 7

This was quite possibly the boyhood Hibs fan’s swansong against Hearts and although the result will sting, Porteous can be satisfied with his own performance. Strong in the tackle and comfortable spraying the ball around from the back, he hardly put a foot wrong.

Rocky Bushiri 6

Solid enough out of possession but never convinced on the ball. Gave away a cheap corner that could have been even worse with a slack back-pass in the first half. Question marks over the centre-half’s decision-making. Stretchered off at the end after suffering a serious-looking injury.

Chris Cadden 6

Was always a willing runner down Hibs’ right flank, constantly bombing forward to offer his side an option in the final third. Tested Zander Clark with a low shot after drifting inside to great effect.

Lewis Stevenson 6

Played in midfield and gave a good account of himself. Recycled possession well and the team benefitted from having a player of his experience in the middle.

James Jeggo 5

The Australian only completed his move to Hibs on Saturday and less than 24 hours later he found himself in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Edinburgh Derby. Booked after 17 minutes for a cynical challenge on Barrie McKay.

Josh Campbell 6

Spurned a glorious opportunity in the first half when nodding wide from close range. Always looked to get forward and got in some dangerous areas but the ball never seemed to fall quite rightly for the midfielder.

Elie Youan 5

Terrific driving run shortly after the restart that almost resulted in a goal. Looked dangerous when running at his man but didn’t always make the right choice with his final ball. Had a couple of decent opportunities but both were dealt with relatively comfortably by Clark. Struck the woodwork in second-half stoppage time.

Aiden McGeady 6

Looked dangerous in the final third and his ability to fashion space in tight areas, coupled with his fine footwork, caused a few headaches for the Hearts defence. Stunning cross on the half-hour mark to Campbell that really should have resulted in an equaliser.

Kevin Nisbet 5

Came into this cup tie in red-hot form with seven goals in as many games but was unable to add to his tally. For all Hibs had the ball in promising areas, they struggled to present the striker with clear-cut opportunities.
