Former Hibs defender Josh Doig has maintained he is only interested in helping Hellas Verona "do well" despite links with Napoli.

The 20-year-old, who moved from Easter Road in the summer, is enjoying life in Italy and has already contributed two goals and two assists in nine Serie A appearances so far this season.

After representing Scotland at youth level, Doig recently received a call-up to the first team squad as part of the Nations League.

He did not feature for Steve Clarke's side, but his performances in Italy have led to him being linked with several clubs, including Italian giants Napoli and the defender has joked about how he found out about the speculation.

"My pals were sending me stuff when I was linked with Napoli," he said.

"It was the same in recent years at Hibs. It is maybe because I am young and if I am doing okay then there are a few rumours.

"I just want to help Verona to do well. It has been good.

"Everything is different from the football to the culture. It is all very different to Scotland.

"It took me a month or two to get used to everything but since then I have been loving life in Italy.

"I wanted a change. I want to travel and see different places and football can give you that platform to do so.

“It has been amazing coming to Verona, a great city, and Serie A, which has also been brilliant.

"I am loving everything over here.”

Meanwhile, a former team-mate of Doig, Martin Boyle, has claimed his recent knee injury may have remained hidden for seven years.

The Australia international, who had to pull out of the World Cup to get surgery to rectify the issue, will also miss the rest of the domestic season.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: "Basically what I have is a discoid meniscus, where I've got a larger meniscus than normal.

"So that was keeping everything in place, it was keeping my cruciate stable, and long story short, I could have had this ACL injury for about six, seven years and been playing through it."
