THE SPFL have continued their anti-piracy work and cracked down on unauthorised broadcasts being shown in pubs and other premises.

Broadcasts - both international and for residential use infringe cinch SPFL copyright if shown within the UK - with a valid subscription agreement the only was to show live match coverage.

The SPFL have taken legal action against licensees of premises identified to be showing unauthorised cinch SPFL matches.

Last season 14 interim interdicts - or temporary injunctions - were granted against licensees of unauthorised premises.

The interdicts prevent licensees from showing unauthorised broadcasts of cinch SPFL Scottish Premiership matches while court actions are ongoing.

A further three permanent interdicts were served with the licensees of the premises to pay the SPFL's legal costs and fund publication of notices advertising the orders in local press.

The three permanent interdicts were served to the Masons Arms in Airdrie, Strathspey Bar in Glasgow and Lord Nelson Bar also in Glasgow.

SPFL chief Neil Doncaster commented: “These interdicts clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our nationwide detection and enforcement campaign.

"The SPFL is one of the most exciting leagues in the world and is hugely popular in pubs, bars and hotels all over the country.

“However, showing matches without paying the necessary licence fee is freeloading, pure and simple and we will continue to be vigilant so we can protect the interests of our clubs and all the licensees who do the right thing and subscribe with Sky Sports to show cinch SPFL games in the season ahead.”
