CELTIC's turnaround in fortunes this season in the Premiership is "good for Scottish football".

That's the view of former manager John Barnes.

Under Ange Postecoglou, the Hoops have transformed the majority of their squad and style of play.

In the time he's been in charge - which is still less than one year - they have won the Premier Sports Cup and currently lead the race for this season's title by three points.

Current champions Rangers trail in second spot, but earlier in the campaign under Steven Gerrard, the Ibrox side sat six-points in front of their rivals quite comfortably.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst maintained this gap for a spell, but since the winter break there has been a swing in momentum, with Celtic now the team in pole position to get their hands on the league trophy after a difficult start.

Their turnaround in form is not surprising for Barnes, as he insists it's a good thing to see both sides going at it hammer and tongs.

He told BonusCodeBets: "I’m not surprised that Celtic have turned things around in the Scottish Premiership. After Rangers stopping their run of nine titles in a row, Celtic were always going to come good again. T

"That's the nature of Scottish football - when one team is down for a little while they eventually come back up. Celtic probably still have more spending power than Rangers.

"They probably rested on their laurels and were a bit complacent, which is why Rangers won the league last season.

"It’s good for Scottish football because you’ve got two quality teams going for the title."
