TOM ROGIC will be available for Celtic’s game against Motherwell tomorrow after returning to Scotland from international duty.
Rogic played in both of Australia’s World Cup qualifiers against Vietnam and Oman over the past week, but manager Ange Postecoglou is confident he will be ready for the trip to Fir Park.
“Tom is good,” Postecoglou said. “After the midweek game, everyone got through ok in terms of injuries and Tom is available now.
“Nir Bitton, who was obviously suspended is available, and Daizen (Maeda) is fully available now, he obviously wasn’t 100 percent even though he did a great job for us off the bench [on Wednesday against Rangers].
With those players returning to the fold, Postecoglou finally has some selection dilemmas for the game against Graham Alexander’s men, having spent much of the season dealing with multiple absences to his playing squad.
“This is exactly why I wanted to put this squad together,” he said. “I have not had the chance yet to really shape it the way I want to in games and between games. We have injuries and absences and injury and international duty and all these kinds of things.
“It’s great we are getting to that stage. I have never seen it as competition for places, I have seen it as players pushing each other on a daily basis to be the best you can be.
“That’s why you want to be at a big club. You don’t want to be at a big club and be ambitious and then the club signs players that aren’t going to challenge you. You know that isn’t sustainable.
“Every player wants to come in here every day and prove himself and try and be better than the day before and it’s easier to do that when you have a guy alongside you who plays in the same position and works just as hard and is just as ambitious.
“There is nothing better than pushing it and providing that competition is healthy then it is a positive thing, and that is what we are trying to create.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
