RANGERS finally got the better of Celtic when they beat their rivals 1-0 at the Penny Cars Stadium with Jane Ross getting the only goal.

They stay two points clear of Glasgow City, who beat Hibernian 3-0.

Celtic had won the four previous meetings between the clubs, including last Sunday's League Cup quarter final, but Rangers got off to the perfect start when Jane Ross scored after just 150 seconds. Celtic lost possession on the halfway line, allowing Rachel McLauchlan to thread the ball forward to Ross and the striker lobbed the ball over advancing Celtic goalkeeper Chloe Logan.

Rangers had by far the better of the chances, with Ross and Kirsten Reilly both being denied by the crossbar. Yet Celtic could have snatched an equaliser five minutes from time when Charlie Wellings – who scored the only goal the previous Sunday – slipped the ball past Rangers goalkeeper Jenna Fife from the edge of the box.

There wasn't enough power in her shot, however, and central defender Demi Vance cleared the danger before the ball had reached the line.

Grant Scott ended his tenure as Glasgow City interim head coach with a 3-0 win over his former club Hibernian at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Priscila Chinchilla, Niamh Farrelly and substitute Lauren Davidson got the goals.

“The girls have got massive respect for Grant, and we're grateful for having him over these months and keeping us going,” City captain Hayley Lauder said. “It was a tough game for us – it always is against Hibs.”

While Hibs stayed in fourth, Hearts moved off the bottom after their second win of the season. They beat Partick Thistle 3-2 at Petershill Park.

Hamilton Accies are now holding up the table despite a 2-2 draw at Spartans, while Motherwell moved up to fifth with a 4-3 win at home to Aberdeen.
