Ben Davies has revealed he has no regrets about snubbing Celtic for Liverpool.

The former Preston North End centre-half was on the verge of signing for the Hoops under Neil Lennon last season when the Reds swooped to ease their defensive woes.

Jurgen Klopp was without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez and desperately needed cover so made a move for Davies, who was delighted to oblige.

The move didn't quite pan out for the Englishman and he did not kick a ball before heading on loan to Sheffield United in the Championship this summer.

But he insists he would take the opportunity to go to Anfield every time - and reckons he still has a chance to make it as a Liverpool player upon his return.

"I have no regrets about going to Liverpool," he said. "It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and if it would come around again I would take it every time.

"At the time you don’t know what way it’ll go. I’m hoping I can hit the ground running this season and get back into my stride nice and quickly then I’ll only have missed a few months of football."

Davies felt confident in his own abilities when Klopp came calling but was never given a chance.

Youngsters Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams were both often picked ahead of him as was captain Jordan Henderson, a natural midfielder, at times.

But now with his loan to Bramall Lane sorted, he simply wants to get back to enjoying his football again. "When I initially went in, I thought I would be in the mix to play," Davies recalls.

"Obviously that’s different this season with world class players back but initially I thought I had a chance of playing. It didn’t quite go how I wanted but it’s not like it was a six-month deal, it’s three-and-a-half years, so there is still time – but this is the time to play games.

"I feel I have more chance of playing here at Sheffield United.

"I was fifth or sixth choice at Liverpool but here I can see a route to regular football.

"That’s exciting as I’ve missed Saturdays and waking up with a means to an end."
