Dundee have asked their players to take pay cuts of up to 30 percent to help them through the coronavirus pandemic.

Club chief John Nelms claims his outfit missed out on more than £500,000 at the end of last season and now must have to make 'difficult decisions' regarding cost-cutting measures.

Coach Jimmy Nicholl and first-team sports scientist Cammy McDermid both left the club. Now it is understood players in James McPake's squad have been asked to take cuts and will be given a deadline to respond to the request.

Nelms has also urged fans to buy season tickets as soon as possible, if they can, to help alleviate some pressure. "Everything we do has been affected," he told Dundee TV. "It's going to be difficult and right now it looks like we're going to have less than half our normal income. At the end of last season we missed out on over £500,000 worth of revenue. We have that in with our insurers at the moment but that's gone into court.

"A big issue is that we'd started to sell season tickets not knowing what we had on offer and quite a few people bought them which is fantastic. We now know what the season is going to look like and we put out our new variation of them which people have started to uptake which is great.

"We really need people to take them up as soon as you can. Usually by this time ff year we've already sold two thirds of our tickets but understandably we've only sold less than 10 percent of what our season tickets would normally be. Not knowing how the season is going to pan out. But we're hoping that'll continue and sales will be strong."

"We're going to have to make tough decisions but we don't want to have to. We're going to do whatever we can to limit those as we always do but we will have to make them."
