The latest news and gossip from around Scottish football as clubs look to strengthen over the transfer window and reconstruction talks look set to continue.
Neil Lennon expects Old Firm delay
Neil Lennon expects the SPFL will try to push the Old Firm derbies into the second half of the season to improve the chances of them being played in front of supporters. The governing body is set to announce next season’s fixtures before the end of the month as it works towards the Premiership returning in August.
“I think [pushing back the first derby] is what everyone would want. Everyone associated with the game would want that, the clubs would want that and I’m sure the TV companies would want that as well." (Various)
Cardiff target Dykes
Cardiff City are ready to rival Rangers for £1m-rated Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes. The striker who scored 12 Premiership goals for Livingston has been a reported target for Rangers, Derby and Blackburn. (Sunday Mail)
SPFL reconstruction vote will happen
The SPFL are likely to hold a vote on reconstruction even if feedback from clubs shows the 14-10-10-10 proposal won't reach the required total to pass. The SPFL board have asked all 42 league clubs to respond to the proposal of a switch to leagues of 14-10-10-10 by tomorrow. (Scottish Sun)
Lewis Ferguson 'is at right club to develop'
Lewis Ferguson has said Aberdeen is the right place to continue his development amid interest from other clubs. He said: "I'm with the right people at the moment to go and kick on and progress my career.
"The only thing that's going to make you a better player is playing games. There's no point going to a bigger club with a bigger contract and sitting on the bench or not making squads."
Matter of time till Billy Gilmour makes full international debut
Scotland coach Steven Reid believes "it's just a matter of time" before Billy Gilmour makes the full international squad if he continues to get game time at Chelsea. "Going forward, he could possibly get even more games for Chelsea now, picking up more experience. If he continues what he’s doing, it’s just a matter of time before he’s in the Scotland squad. You would be an idiot to say otherwise." (Sunday Mail)
Partick Thistle call for clubs to write the wrongs
Partick Thistle have pleaded with their fellow Scottish Professional Football League clubs to do “the right thing” and vote through league reconstruction proposals.
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster has asked clubs to indicate by 10am on Monday whether they would back a permanent 14-10-10-10 structure next season in a bid to stop Hearts, Thistle and Stranraer being relegated.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
