CONNOR GOLDSON savoured one of Rangers’ most important recent results and most impressive performances as Steven Gerrard’s side moved to within touching distance of a Europa League knockout berth.
The Light Blues continued their superb European campaign with a 2-0 victory over Porto at Ibrox and now head to Feyenoord later this month knowing they could clinch a place in the next phase of the competition for the first time under Gerrard’s guidance.
Rangers went into the Ibrox clash full of confidence after taking a well-deserved point in the Estadio do Dragao last time out and this was an even more memorable night for Gerrard and his players.

Alfredo Morelos opened the scoring midway through the second half as he collected a pass from Ryan Jack and fired a superb effort into the corner to send Ibrox wild.
And when Steven Davis doubled the advantage just four minutes later, the points were secured as Gerrard’s side celebrated a famous win over the Portuguese giants.
Rangers welcome Young Boys to Ibrox on matchday six and Goldson is confident they can progress out of Group G this term.
He said: “That result is up there with our best results in Europe. We know the size of Porto and what they have obviously achieved over the years in the Champions League and this competition.
“To get a result like that was great and it puts us in a great position in this group to try and qualify which is what we want to do.
“They were a good side and were always going to cause us problems which they did in both games but we still limited their chances despite them having a lot of possession in the first half.
“But we tried to put them on the backfoot as much as we could in the second half and we started pressing them a bit more it gave us more belief we could go and hurt them.

“It’s a big chance for us in Rotterdam. We always knew it would be a tough group but we’ve acquitted ourselves really well so far and we just need to keep going.
“There’s two big games left and we just need to try and hopefully get three points in one of them.
“We’ve been doing well in defence and kept three clean sheets in the bounce and that’s our aim - to help the team by keeping goals out and we always know if we can do that then we’re capable of scoring goals. “
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
