ALEX MCLEISH will take his time to consider his next managerial move after turning down offers from England and abroad since leaving his position as Scotland boss earlier this year.
The 60-year-old was sacked by the Scottish FA in April following a poor start to the European Championship qualifiers and the shock 3-0 loss to Kazakhstan.
McLeish was replaced by Steve Clarke as national boss and is content to bide his time before deciding what the future holds.
McLeish said: “I’m having a break. I’ve had two or three approaches from different countries and continents - and from England as well. But I’m just taking a break, I’m not committing myself to anything just now.”
McLeish was back in the dugout on Saturday as he led a Rangers Legends side in a charity match.
The Gers went down 3-2 to Liverpool at Ibrox but Big Eck was pleased to be in familiar surroundings once again.
McLeish said: “It was great, I’ve got some marvellous memories from here. Obviously it wasn’t always plain sailing because it is a very demanding job. But the success we had here was pretty phenomenal back in the day, when I think of what we did.
“There are memories that will live with me forever and the Legends game was brilliant.
“We got a marvellous reception from the fans and it was wonderful to be back in the dressing room with some Rangers legends, many who I’ve worked with in the past.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
