CELTIC and Rangers booked their places in the group stages of the Europa League with play-off wins over AIK Stockholm and Legia Warsaw respectively on Thursday night.
At the time of writing, both clubs are yet to learn their group stage opponents but each club's accountants will be pleased that their bank balances have been boosted by their European runs.
Celtic picked up €280,000 for taking part in the first round of the Champions League qualifiers and were awarded a further €380,000 for reaching the second stage. Neil Lennon's side were then eliminated from the Champions League in the third round of qualifying by CFR Cluj, but were compensated with €480,000 for the defeat. On Thursday, Celtic sealed their place in the group stages and will be rewarded with a further €2,920,000.
Rangers, meanwhile, collected €240,000 for their first-round win over St Joseph's and another €260,000 for appearing in the second round. Their third-round tie with Midtjylland banked a further €280,000 before their win over Legia Warsaw on Thursday night confirmed their place in the group stages of the Europa League and €2,920,000 of prize money that accompanies it.

Kilmarnock's first European campaign this century ended in disappointment after Angelo Alessio's side were on the receiving end of a shock defeat to Connah's Quay Nomads, but the Ayrshire club still picked up €240,000 for their efforts.
Aberdeen fared a little better, reaching the third round of qualifiers before ultimately losing out to Croatia's Rijeka. Derek McInnes' side banked €240,000 and €260,000 for taking part in the first two rounds of qualifying before receiving a further €280,000 after being knocked out in the third round.
It's worth pointing out that these figures are purely the prize money on offer from UEFA, and do not take into account TV or matchday revenue. And, in Celtic and Rangers' cases, more money is of course on offer. In the group stages, UEFA award €570,000 per win and another €190,000 for each draw a club plays out.
So far, then, this is how much prize money each Scottish side has been awarded by UEFA this season:
Celtic - €4,060,000 (around £3.7 million)
Rangers - €3,700,000 (around £3.3 million)
Aberdeen - €780,000 (around £700,000)
Kilmarnock - €240,000 (around £215,000)
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
