SERIE A-bound Scot Liam Henderson is optimistic that Steve Clarke will come to Italy to watch him as he pursues an international call up for Scotland.
The former Celtic and Hibernian midfielder will this season become the first Scot to play in Italian football’s top flight for 33 years, since Graeme Souness starred for Sampdoria, with newly-promoted Verona.
Henderson, 23, has now tasted success with four clubs in three different countries, having won all three domestic trophies in Scotland with the Parkhead outfit and the Easter Road club.
He also secured a league and Cup double in Norway during his spell with Rosenborg and earned promotion in Italy at the end of last season.
Now he says he is desperate to get involved in international football too with Scotland.

Henderson said: “I would love to play for Scotland because it’s very important to me.
“I hope Steve Clarke will come and watch some games in Verona.
“I’m looking forward to the new season – it’s vital that we start the league well and get some early points on the board.
“On a personal level, it’s a really important season for me. I want to give everything to the team.
“We have brought in some new midfielders to the club and that means it’s more competition for me, but they are strong players that will help us.
“We have a good group of players at Verona and they are also all good guys off the pitch too.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
