Clarke: Senior Scottish players felt 'pushed out'
After naming his 27-man squad for the upcoming EURO 2020 double-header against Cyprus and Belgium, Scotland manager Steve Clarke reckons that some players felt they were cast aside under Alex McLeish. Clarke said: "Some of the more senior ones felt after the qualifying campaign under Gordon they’d been pushed aside a wee bit. That’s something we can work on."
Tottenham defender heaps praise on Alfredo Morelos
Davinson Sanchez, who plays at centre-back for Tottenham Hotspur, thinks that his former Colombia youth international team-mate Alfredo Morelos is destined to go to the very top level of football, report the Scottish Sun. “Alfredo is a good guy," said Sanchez. "He is doing really well and he scored a lot of goals last season. His mentality is going to improve a lot. I will say all the things that have happened in his life are going to be important for him to improve."
Kerr amazed by Hampden support
With the Scotland women's team jetting off to France for the Women's World Cup, manager Shelley Kerr said she couldn't believe the level of support her players received at Hampden last night as Scotland overcame Jamaica 3-2. "As a nation we have managed to get 18,500 here," said Kerr. "It is watershed moment. I never thought I would see that in my lifetime. It's a credit to the players."
Lennon wants Garry Parker as Celtic assistant
The Daily Record are reporting that Celtic manager Neil Lennon wants to be runited with his assitant Garry Parker in time for the beginning of the season. The Englishman is currently out of work since he and Lennon left Hibernian earlier in the season.
John Terry wishes John McGinn was English
Aston Villa assistant manager John Terry has praised former Hibernian midfielder John McGinn after the 24-year-old's fantastic debut season at the Birmingham club. Terry said: "John is superb. Jack Grealish gets all the headlines, but it’s the work John does. I just wish he was English and he was playing at Wembley."
Partick Thistle apologise over handling of Doolan departure
Partick Thistle chairman Jacqui Low has apologised to the club's fans for the manner in which Firhill legend Kris Doolan left the club, report the Daily Record. In a statement to the club's website, Low wrote: "Where we – the club, not the manager – got it wrong was in how we handled the timing of making the announcement. There was no intention to be disrespectful to Kris but that’s not how it looked to you or how it felt to him."
Richie Gray to miss Rugby World Cup
The final two places in Gregor Townsend's pre-World Cup training squad have been filled by Glasgow Warriors duo Kyle Steyn and Scott Cummings, meaning that British & Irish Lions lock Richie Gray looks certain to miss this summer's tournament. "We are fortunate to have a number of very good second-rows available to us right now,” Townsend said yesterday.
