ANDY LITTLE reckons Rangers will rue a rotten run in March that cost them any chance of silverware this term.
Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard is set to end his first campaign at Ibrox empty-handed as Rangers’ wait for a trophy triumph continues.
The Light Blues were beaten by Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup semi-finals in October but found themselves level with Celtic at New Year after winning the Old Firm game.
That was as good as it would get in the Premiership, however, as points were dropped against Kilmarnock and St Johnstone after the top flight winter break.
And that misery was compounded as Gerrard’s side failed to win any of their five outings in March as their Scottish Cup ambitions also came to a premature end.

“I think it was almost, but just not enough,” former Ibrox striker Little told the fourladshadadream podcast. “You look at where the club sat on December 29 after the Celtic game, we were level on points and then it seemed like the winter break just knocked stuffing out of the team, for whatever reason.
“The form has been really poor these last three months. I was looking at the games I have done for RangersTV and there was the Dundee game where they had gone on a run of 5-0 against Hamilton away, 5-0 against Kilmarnock at home and we won 4-0.
“The sort of things the manager was saying, everything was positive at that stage and that was the end of February. At that point, everything was still within Rangers’ grasp – the Scottish Cup was still there to be won and the league was there to be fought for. But it seemed like March was the month that the wheels fell off. It was just a shocking month for the club and the big games that really mattered – Celtic, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Hibs – weren’t won.

“The season generally was so close, but when it mattered something just didn’t click and the players didn’t find the right answers at the time.
“Generally I think Steven Gerrard has been awesome. It takes a lot to be Rangers manager, it is not just getting the team out to win, it is managing everything around.
“Dealing with the Press is probably one of the biggest jobs and I think he has done that impeccably. He has said all the right things and he has been a real positive since he has come to the club.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
