FRANK MCAVENNIE expects Celtic to splash the cash this summer and set their sights on ten-in-a-row.
The champions will wrap up an eighth successive title in the coming weeks and are just 90 minutes away from a treble Treble as Hearts lie in wait in the Scottish Cup final.
But it is shaping up to be a significant summer on and off the field as the Hoops board get set to appoint a permanent successor to former boss Brendan Rodgers.
Neil Lennon is in pole position to land the job on a full-time basis and the Northern Irishman has already started planning for a potential overhaul of the Celtic squad.
Former Parkhead striker McAvennie, speaking at the Emmie Smillie Charity Foundation event in Glasgow, said: “There is going to be a changing of the guard in terms of the squad in the summer and Celtic will bring in four or five new players.
“They might not spent £10m or £15m on a player but they will find a few gems. Edouard has been a snip at £8m and that’s the kind of quality Lenny – or whoever is in charge – will be looking for.
“That will make it even harder for anyone to catch them. A quadruple treble would be great but we all know what the supporters want – 10- in-a-row. That will be unique in Scotland and the fans will want Peter (Lawwell) and Dermot (Desmond) to give the new manager the funds to get there.
“I look at Edouard and see a quality player who is really maturing. He was spinning over the top on Sunday and I was wondering where he learned it because he usually comes short.
“He’s coming on and it’s up to Celtic to find another few Edouards out there. There’s also Griff and if he can get back doing what he can do then there’s a couple of top strikers at the club.

“Ajer has turned in to a wonderful player and I was impressed with Jozo on Sunday. I didn’t think he had the step-overs in his locker.
“Forrest is a big game player. He’s a wonderful talent but I sometimes think he doesn’t do enough for me.
“He should be doing it every week. But you look at him now and he’s a big game player.
“That’s the sign of a top player and I’m glad no one has come in and taken him away. He’s going to be up there for player of the year.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
