NEIL Lennon's second stint at Celtic got off to a winning start thanks to Odsonne Edouard's last-gasp winner at Tynecastle last night. James Forrest's opener was cancelled out by Oliver Bozanic's penalty before Edouard struck the winner in stoppage time.

After the match, Lennon underlined the psychological importance of picking up three points and said he was "ecstatic" with the result. "It’s a great win at a difficult place under the circumstances," said Lennon. "You never stop believing with this group that they might make something happen. I can’t knock the players. The mentality is absolutely brilliant and I can’t fault them tonight."

And speaking after the match, Celtic captain Scott Brown insisted he bears no ill will to Brendan Rodgers following the 46-year-old’s sudden departure to English Premier League side Leicester. "There is always going to be a lot of stick but for me he was brilliant on a personal level and that is what really counts," said Brown. "We are all going to miss Brendan. He’s been fantastic for this club."

Rangers kept pace with league leaders Celtic with a comfortable 4-0 win at Ibrox over Jim McIntyre's Dundee. Glen Kamara got on the scoresheet against his old club, as did James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe.

Kilmarnock's home fixture against Motherwell was called off last night after half the game had been played after a heavy fog enveloped Rugby Park. Killie assistant manager Alex Dyer said: "We have no complaints. It was the right call, 100 percent. You have to think of the safety of the players and the supporters."

Aberdeen suffered a shock 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Hamilton yesterday evening, courtesy of George Oakley's wonder goal and another from Mickel Miller. Accies manager Brian Rice said: "It’s a massive result for us and the clean sheet is very important too. The performance was very good. It was everything I asked of the boys after Sunday."

The Herald's Stewart Fisher has defended Brendan Rodgers' legacy at Celtic in his latest column, arguing that the Northern Irishman does not deserve to be treated as a pariah by his former club's supporters.

And speaking before the Hearts game yesterday, Neil Lennon admitted that his predecessor in the Parkhead hot seat has raised standards at the club since the last time he was manager. Lennon said: "I might have to win everything, because of the bar being so high. I’m not going to come in here and go ‘right we’re doing it my way’ because the way they’ve done it has been working."

In golf, R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers is keen to narrow the gender pay gap in the sport and is determined to change the way female golfers are treated. Slumbers said: "We feel deep responsibility about that (the pay gap) and we have to close it significantly, but it’s not simply increasing the prize-money."

And in athletics, Scotland's Laura Muir has been named as the 21st best female athelete on the planet yesterday as she prepares for this weekend's European Indoor Championships in Glasgow. Muir's coach Andy Young said of her chances this weekend: "To get one gold is going to be a challenge, let alone trying to get two. People are talking like it is all a foregone conclusion but every medal in its own right would be very special because there are lot of good athletes out there."

Elsewhere, the Scottish Sun are reporting that Brendan Rodgers will be given £200 million to spend on players this summer at Leicester City.

Tommy Wright has hit out at Hibernian striker Florian Kamberi, who the St Johnstone boss says 'conned the ref' to win the deciding penalty during his side's 2-1 defeat at McDiarmid Park last night, according to the Daily Record.

And Ross County's Josh Mullin has compared his team-mates' mentality to that of last year's Championship surprise package Livingston in an interview with  the Press and Journal.
