SCOTT BAIN 6
Didn’t have a save to make all afternoon. But the goalkeeper was certainly alert to the danger Kilmarnock posed throughout. Was rewarded for a professional display with a clean sheet.
JEREMY TOLJAN 6
The German defender got forward whenever play allowed early on and initiated some Celtic attacks down the right flank. But he drifted out of the game as it wore on
DEDRYCK BOYATA 7
Did well to block a goal-bound Eamonn Brophy shot in the first-half. The Belgian was outstanding in the air. Headed a Callum McGregor corner back across goal in the last minute to set up Scott Brown for the winner.
KRISTOFFER AJER 6
Was preferred to Jozo Simunovic on the artificial surface at Rugby Park. The Norwegian had a chance to stake a claim for a regular start in the absence of the injured Filip Benkovic and did his cause no harm.
JOHNNY HAYES 6
Took over from Emilio Izaguirre at left back following the Honduran’s wretched display against Valencia. His positional play left a lot to be desired at times. Allowed Chris Burke to get in behind him on more than one occasion. His crossing was also poor. That said, he was a bundle of energy.
SCOTT BROWN 6
The Celtic captain had a point to prove after an off-night against Valencia. Booked by referee Bobby Madden for a rash challenge on Greg Taylor during the first-half. Scored the winner in the final minute. Then got a second yellow card and a red for celebrating it with the fans.
CALLUM McGREGOR 6
Combined well with Odsonne Edouard to set up a chance for himself on the edge of the Kilmarnock area in the first-half. He was unable to unlock a packed defence thereafter. But he set up the goal with a late corner.
RYAN CHRISTIE 6
Had an attempt saved by Daniel Bachmann in the 17th minute. Was lucky not to be yellow carded by the match official after barging over Gary Dicker in the first-half. One header almost crept in and shelled a free-kick over before being replaced.
JAMES FORREST 5
Looked dangerous whenever he got on the ball. But that didn’t happen frequently enough for the travelling support in Ayrshire. Cut a frustrated figure at times wide on the right before being replaced by Timothy Weah.
SCOTT SINCLAIR 6
The winger was lively whenever he got on the ball and cut inside looking to add to his goals tally whenever he could. But the Englishman couldn’t create or convert any scoring chances for his side despite his endeavours.
ODSONNE EDOUARD 6
Came in for Oliver Burke up front. The big Frenchman made an immediate impact. He shot wide and had an attempt saved by Daniel Bachmann in the early stages of the game. Received limited service thereafter.
SUBSTITUTES
OLIVER BURKE 5
Used his pace to good effect.
TIMOTHY WEAH
Injected energy into Celtic’s play. Hit the post in injury-time. Then got booked after the final whistle.
VAKOUN ISSOUF BAYO 3
The Ivorian striker made his Celtic debut in the 89th minute. Flicked wide from a Weah cross.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
