Some of his passing was to the wrong man at the wrong time. This must be sorted out and the fans are fed up watching such self-inflicted pressure. The goalie had no chance with the goals but made a great save in the first half to keep out Daniel Parejo’s header. 5
Jeremy Toljan
Solid enough, especially in the first-half, but the second goal came down his side and while he didn't do a huge amount wrong, the German kept turning back when in his own half. Even he ran out of ideas. 6

Dedryck Boyata
What we have come to expect from the Belgian. He looks so confident and then whether it’s concentration or a lack of ability, mistakes creep in. He is never assured at this level and, again, was poor. 5
Jozo Simunovic
The ball sailed over his head as he marked space at the second goal. Being unable to deal with a cross isn’t good enough at any level. 4
Emilio Izaguirre
Criticising the left-back is tough to do but he’s now 32 and this level, alas, it too much for him. He was too late getting out for Valencia’s goal. An awful night for him. 4
Scott Brown
A strange experience for the captain. For the first 15 minutes he was the best player on display, then a few bad passes knocked him off his stride. A poor decision by him led to the second goal. What you have to say was he kept going. 5
Callum McGregor
Spent a lot of the game finding space and then shouting for a pass that was never going to come. Good early shot and looked the one threat when on the ball – which didn’t happen nearly enough. 6
James Forrest
An early move showed promise and only a fine tackle denied his slaloming run taking him past a final Valencia defender late in the first-half. But this wasn’t his night. Valencia had him figured out soon enough. 5
Ryan Christie
He’s been great domestically but had found Europe a challenge this season, to put it mildly. Christie has done little wrong, but this was a night for McGregor or Tom Rogic in the No.10 role. Subbed after an hour. 5
Scott Sinclair
Couldn’t really be faulted. He enjoyed some nice touches and threatened once or twice. Sinclair’s problem, he was hardly alone, was that Valencia didn’t allow him any space. Went off after an hour. 5
Oliver Burke
As Valencia began to play a bit, Burke looked like an lone striker, so far apart was he from the rest. He kept working, chased the ball and lost causes and tried to lead the line, which was an impossible job. That's never his position. 5
Substitutes
Odsonne Edouard
Got half an hour when it was 2-0. He looked sharp and at least gave the Spanish defence something to do. Should he have started? 5
Timothy Weah
Sent on with Edouard. Had one shot which went well over. It was asking a lot for him to save the day. 5
