RANGERS could look to strike deals to sign Jordan Jones and Glen Kamara this month as the pair edge closer to agreeing Bosman moves with Steven Gerrard’s side.
Both players underwent medicals on Friday after the Gers made approaches to Kilmarnock and Dundee about securing the services of their key men.
Boss Gerrard has identified the pair to bolster his ranks for next season and both players are now set to put pen-to-paper on contracts with the Light Blues.
But they could still move to Ibrox sooner rather than later if their current clubs decide to cash in and allow them to leave this month.
The Gers had a bid for Jones turned down 12 months ago and the Northern Irishman has enjoyed another impressive campaign as Steve Clarke’s side have put together a remarkable run of form in the Premiership.
The loss of Jones would be a significant blow to Killie ahead of the second half of the campaign and, like their counterparts at Dens Park, the Rugby Park board have a decision to make over whether to lose their star man for free.
Any funds received from Rangers could allow Dees boss Jim McIntyre to bolster his squad as he looks to keep his side in the Premiership and Ibrox chiefs will monitor the situation as the transfer window unfolds.
While it remains to be seen if Jones and Kamara join up with Gerrard’s squad this month, the deals for Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis will see them link up with the Gers at their winter training base on the continent.
Davis is closing in on a return to Rangers after a seven-year spell at Southampton and an announcement that he has signed on the dotted line is expected in the coming days.
It is Bournemouth striker Defoe that will kick-off the January activity, though, as he gets set to undergo a medical south of the border today before jetting out to Tenerife to be reunited with former England team-mate Gerrard.
Cherries boss Eddie Howe has allowed Defoe to leave for Ibrox after completing a £19million deal for Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke, who had been repeatedly linked with a move to Ibrox.
Howe said: “Those two goals against Crystal Palace and the last-gasp equaliser against Watford were massive moments in our season.
“Then you add the other value he brings in the changing room and on the training pitch. He’s been a role model for a lot of our younger players.
“Any deal which does get agreed will be in the player’s best interests and what the player wants to pursue.
“From our side, I’ve said from day one that I love working with Jermain. I’ve really enjoyed the relationship we’ve had and how professional he has been and how good he has been for the group of players we have."
