Falkirk have taken Anton Rodgers – son of Celtic manager Brendan – on trial.
The former Brighton, Oldham Athletic and Swindon Town midfielder is a free agent after spending last season with Hungerford Town in the National League South, English football’s sixth tier.
The 25-year-old, who was capped by the Republic of Ireland at under-19 level, went on trial with Peterborough United in the summer but a lack of fitness hindered his chances of landing a deal.
He also spent time training with Celtic last year when he took part in the Hoops’ pre-season tour of Austria.
Rodgers played the full 90 minutes as Falkirk’s reserves crashed to a 5-1 defeat to Dundee United’s second string at St Andrews yesterday and will remain with the squad as manager Ray McKinnon weighs up an offer.
Meanwhile, McKinnon has urged his struggling side to "keep at it" as they search for their first league win of the season.
Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Dundee United was the Bairns’ sixth consecutive defeat in the league to leave them pointless and rock bottom of the Championship table.
He said: “We are where we are for a reason but there’s been improvement.
“I think we should have taken more out of the last two games than we have.
“So, we just need to keep at it for the foreseeable future.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
