HIBS LADIES maintained their cup dominance in impressive style last night, winning the SSE Scottish Women’s Cup with a 3-0 victory over their great rivals, Glasgow City.

This was the fifth meeting of the sides this year, with Glasgow City winning all three league meetings while Hibs, winners of the last three cup competitions, finished on top in their last cup meetin in April.

There was little to split the teams in the first forty five minutes at Livingston’s Toni Macaroni Arena but with the final kick of the first half, Hibs delivered a killer blow with Abi Harrison scoring the opener.

As the second half started, a Glasgow City resurgence was anticipated but failed to materialise. The league champions defeated Hibs 3-0 just a fortnight ago but they showed little of that quality last night and in fact, did not have a single shot on target in the entire 90 minutes.

A foul by Glasgow’s Lauren McMurchie in the 81st minute saw her pick a yellow card and from the resulting free kick, Siobhan Hunter scored a screamer from 30 yards to put Hibs 2-0 up. This forced Glasgow City forward, leaving them exposed at the back and with just two minute remaining, Rachael Small headed Hibs’ third goal to seal the win.

“It was a very good performance - we won our individual battles and collectively, I thought we were the better team,” said opening goal scorer, Harrison. “As long as we win cups and the team is successful then I don’t care who is scoring the goals but as a striker, I’m happy to be doing it.

“I was pleased to get a goal but it was the next two that really killed the game off. When we’re on our game, we really are unbeatable and I think we showed that.”
